The 2009 Raid on Wyoming will be held once again in the beautiful rural setting in the mountains of north east Pennsylvania at Moon Lake County Park.
During the Year of 1779 the Wyoming Valley located on the
Susquehanna river near the town of Wilkes-Barre, a small band of American
patriots continued to defend the valley from the constant raids of the British
Crown and their Native Indian Allies.
After the defeat of the 24th Connecticut Regiment on July 3, 1778,
the survivors and about 100 continental soldiers of Captain Spalding’s Company
returned to Valley and provided the principal defense of the region
without support of the Continental Army until September of 1778. After the
success of the Hartley Expedition the forces under Lt.Col. Hartley's command
returned to Sunbury leaving the defense of the Valley to the Militia and a
garrison of Continentals under the command of Colonel Zebulon Butler.
